Recycling Oil Workshop

Maribor | 9th-11th May 2025

From theory to hands-on creativity, the Recycling Oil Workshop in Maribor brought together participants from Cyprus, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Denmark for three inspiring days of sustainability, creativity, and community.

The workshop focused on the environmental impact of used cooking oil—a commonly overlooked waste product—and explored how it can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful.

The workshop began with a theoretical session, where participants explored the environmental risks of improper cooking oil disposal and discussed sustainable alternatives. They discovered the life cycle of used oil and its potential for reuse, setting the foundation for the hands-on sessions to follow.

On the second day, participants had the opportunity to create their own scented candles from used cooking oil. From filtering the oil to choosing fragrances and pouring the wax, they experienced the full process of eco-candle production.
Each candle was a unique creation, but leftover wax was combined into a collective candle—a glowing symbol of unity and shared commitment to reducing waste.

The final day featured a site visit to BOLJE d.o.o., a local enterprise specialising in recycling used cooking oil. Participants witnessed the entire process in action—from oil collection and filtration to professional candle production—bridging the gap between learning and real-world application.

The workshop concluded with scented candles, smiles, and a renewed sense of purpose. Participants left with practical knowledge, creative skills, and the inspiration to promote sustainable living in their own communities.
